I've always loved art. Since I was a little girl, I loved to draw and make things. I even remember my family putting up with my "art contest" games where everyone drew pictures and I judged them to declare a winner. (I think my favorite was my dad's elephant seen from behind. It was basically a circle with a squiggle.)
Unfortunately, for most of my life art was nothing more than a hobby. In high school, when it was time to start making choices about my future as a "grown-up," it started being sacrificed. I still made sure to take one art class every semester. But when there were any conflicts, the academic subjects came first. For example, when I had an opportunity to attend either an art camp or a science camp which were scheduled at the same time, science won.
When it came time for college, going art school was never a real option. It wasn't a viable career / life choice. Thus, I attended a more traditional university. Eventually I started working full time, got married, had a kid… and became what I understood a responsible adult was supposed to be. And that's the life I led for over two decades.
Now, it's time for something different. I'm choosing to make art my life. Being an artist takes a front seat, not back seat. While I don't know if I could realistically have been successful as an artist 20-25 years ago, the world is different now. With new technology and modern society presenting a world of opportunity, it's a great time to try something new. It's the right moment to devote myself to my passions instead of a job. Now is my chance, and I look forward to sharing my art and my creative journey with you.
