The first month of 2018 has come to a close. It's amazing how different my life is now from what I would have envisioned just one month ago. But I'm thrilled with the direction things are going. January was a full and busy month as I started taking things in a new direction. Here are some of my accomplishments:
- I spent a significant amount of time & energy on setting up the "business" side of being an artist. Now my website (and this blog) are up and running.
- I scoped out and started working with various printing companies for products with my designs - including art prints, journals & stationery, textiles.
- My online shop (via Etsy) is open for business.
- I registered for several local arts & crafts shows.
- I made new art!
All of the above are significant, but it's the last one that's the most fun and interesting (at least to me). One of my artistic adventures involves exploring new media- or at least new ways of using them. I've created a few abstract designs on canvas using mixed media. I'm enjoying the new approach and hope to try some more things - I have several ideas in mind already.
I've also spent time doing some acrylic painting. While this isn't a new medium for me, I'm more practiced with oil paints. It took some re-learning with trial and error to get used to how acrylics behave.
I managed to complete a pair of paintings. Conceived as complementary pieces to each other, they have similar styles and themes. They each also work perfectly well on their own.
Do you notice the roman numeral in the titles? I anticipate doing a series of duo sun/moon works. So in the future, there will be Empyrean Yin II & Empyrean Yang II and so forth. . .
I'll be bringing these paintings to upcoming vendor & craft shows. (Even though I haven't made web listings yet, they are available for sale at $150 each or $270 for both. If you are interested or have questions, please send me a note.) This will be my first season selling at shows and fairs, so I'm rather excited. I'm starting with smaller shows to get my feet wet, but I think they will be lots of fun.
I hope your year is off to a wonderful start as well! Here's to a fantastic 2018!
Nothing from December 3, 2024 to February 3, 2025.
